The One Thing
I'm asking God for one thing, only one thing: To live with him in his house my whole life long. I'll contemplate his beauty; I'll study at his feet. Psalms 27:4 (MSG)

Guess What?
We have another broody hen and she is laying on 12 eggs (I believe). I'm a little worried that she isn't going to be as good as a mom as the last broody hen BUT hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised. So look for the results around the 31st of May.
Update on our chicks from our last broody hen, ALL 8 are doing GREAT =)
Oh, this may disturb some of you but we have decided that with any new chickens we get through our broody hens we will raise the ROOSTERS up for meat. Yes, that's right we will be eating some very fresh Chicken!! The killing and preparing process will be a learning experience for us all but I think it will be a good one. I am looking forward to eating home grown fresh chicken for the first time in my life. I do know that the first time we have to go through the process might be a little difficult but in the end I believe we will enjoy the results.

While Your Waiting
There is a song on the Fireproof soundtrack (#6), It's called While I'm Waiting. I heard it before but it's been a while and yesterday I put the soundtrack in and that song came on and it was like.......BAM!! The Lord used it to shake up my Faith!! The Words are amazing. I could say so much about them and what they (through the Holy Spirit) do for me but I will just let you read the words below and see for yourself how awesome the truth of this song is.
The words are below and you can listen to it hear on this video : http://www.vimeo.com/3768562

While I’m Waiting
Psalm 5:3, 27:14, 33:20, 37:7, 38:15, 40:1, Isaiah 30:18, Lamentations 3:24
John Waller"The explanation for this song is simple, I was waiting on God and I was hurting when I wrote the lyrics. I probably wouldn’t have written a song if my friend, Mike, hadn’t encouraged me to document what I was going through during that time. I’m sure there are few people who can’t relate to this song, but the important thing to remember while we’re waiting on God is to not just wait but to actively wait. Serve, worship and be faithful with what you have, where you are… “even while (you) wait.”
**********************
I’m waiting
I’m waiting on You, Lord
And I am hopeful
I’m waiting on You, Lord
Though it is painful
But patiently, I will wait
I will move ahead, bold and confident
Taking every step in obedience
While I’m waiting, I will serve You
While I’m waiting, I will worship
While I’m waiting, I will not faint
I’ll be running the race, Even while I wait
I’m waiting
I’m waiting on You, Lord
And I am peaceful
I’m waiting on You, Lord
Though it’s not easy
But faithfully, I will wait
Yes, I will wait
I will serve You while I’m waiting
I will worship while I’m waiting
I will serve You while I’m waiting
I will worship while I’m waiting
I will serve You while I’m waiting
I will worship while I’m waiting on You, Lord

Hope For Today: You Got A Friend In Me
“You Got A Friend In Me”
Verse for today: A man who has friends must himself be friendly. Pr. 18:24
I just love this song from the movie “Toy Story:” You’ve got a friend in me; you’ve got a friend in me…… da, da, da, da ….. Just remember what your old pal said, “You’ve got a friend in me.” Our verse today tells us that in order to have friends we must be friendly. What does it mean to be friendly; to be a friend?
The dictionary definition is: 1. A person whom one knows well and is fond of; intimate associate; close acquaintance 2. A person on the same side in a struggle, one who is not an enemy or foe; ally 3. A supporter or sympathizer
Do you have someone that you know well and you are fond of; someone you would call a close acquaintance? When you are in a struggle, is there someone who will stand beside you and be your ally? Do you have people who support and sympathize with you. Are you that kind of person for someone else?
Jesus wants us to have friends, but most of all he wants us to be a friend. In John 13:34-35 He said, “So now I am giving you a new commandment; Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples. We become a friend when we show love to others. Jesus also said that the way people will know we are His, is by our love for one another. Let’s take a look at how love reacts to others.
Love is patient, kind, not jealous, boastful, proud or rude. It doesn’t demand its own way, is not irritable, does not keep a record of wrongs, doesn’t rejoice about injustice but rejoices when truth comes out. It never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. 1 Corin. 13:4-7
Quite a list isn’t it? You may be thinking you could never live up to that, but the awesome thing is, Jesus doesn’t ask us to do it by ourselves. All we have to do is allow the Holy Spirit to love through us. Just treat them like you want to be treated. Try it, you’ll like it. After all, we reap whatever we sow; hate or love, friendship or enmity, trust or jealousy. Why don’t you make sowing love and friendship your priority in life.
May you have an abundance of friends to surround and support you.
Beth (My Mom)
Take action: Reach out to someone and offer your friendship today.

Hatching Eggs the Old-Fashioned Way
1st: two chicks peeping out 2nd. four chicks moving around 3rd. A 1.5 day old chick
***************************************
We decided that if a chicken ever got broody we would give it a try BUT we would let the mom do everything! So early in April we had of of our Black Australope go broody and we let her sit on some eggs (I think there were 12 eggs). She has been a GREAT mom and this past Saturday (21st day) we had five of the eggs hatch and then on Sunday the sixth, seventh hatched and on late Monday we had our eighth one hatch. Three other eggs (chicks) didn't make it, it was a wee bit sad but it is a part of life. There is one more egg that hasn't hatched and I have this feeling that it won't =) hopefully I will be wrong. The "daddy" is either our Golden Comet or our Rhode Island Red Rooster. All the chicks are beautiful and none of them look like the mom =) We will continue to keep the mom with them until they are a couple of week old (maybe more). This has been very exciting for all of us and we are glad we let our broody chicken have her way!
1st a 1.5 day old chick 2nd and 3rd our boys holding chicks
Here is our eighth one shortly after it hatched out of the shell.

Our 1st garden
The above pics are us preparing the garden and what it looked like after we planted our veggie's (Broccoli, Cabbage, Green Beans, Red, Yellow, Green Bell peppers, Jalapeno Pepper, Red leaf Lettuce and Green Leaf Lettuce).
These pictures were taken after several weeks, lots of rain and a frost I was not expecting =( I think I will take the advice next year and not plant before Good Friday.
***************************************************************
After much research I decided to use the Square Foot Gardening method (but we went with a rectangle =), it just sounded so easy. So towards the end of March we went to work. After building the box and adding the soil we planted some veggie plants (next time I will go with seeds). Since we planted the garden we have had so much rain but I'm not complaining because we really need it!! We also had one more frost about a week ago which was before Easter. As of right now I think I'm going to get something from every variety of veggie I planted except for all the peppers. Oh, I also planted 4 Strawberry Plants behind the house in my Herb Garden.....so far so good. Anyway, Ill keep you posted.
